One of those Days...

I had one yesterday. One of those days where you wake up knowing you shouldn't get out of bed, but some ulterior sense of duty forces the situation and you, or in this case, I, found myself at work, after nearly causing a multi-car collision at the post office. I proceeded to destroy our company website, then botch a mass mailing, and then left early before the computers started to actually explode. Gah.

Today, nearly everything was easily corrected, though I am still uncertain how many of the 2,000 mailing list recipients actually heard our important announcement. Norton Anti-Virus self-updating system, I shake my fist at you!

In local news, I have a new paperdoll in the works, something a little different. I'll introduce her here first, so stay tuned!

'Droiding my time away...

Last night I learned of The Poladroid via this post, and spent way too much time transforming my boring regular pictures into totally cool polaroid-like pictures. Then I joined the flickr group and saw how other people went even further messing up their pictures to look beaten and old and drawn on and coffee stained, and of course I had to go and find some coffee stains and wrinkles and such to play with as well.

Funny how much fun it is to take a perfectly clear photo and make it look like its spent days on the floor of a grungy diner. And the photos that really look best as "polaroids" are the throw away pictures, the snapshots that seem a bit awkward in their original pristine condition.

I have to admit, I have wanted a polaroid camera since my mom borrowed one for work when I was about five. They are like magic and its really so sad that they, along with the rest of the film world, are fading out of existence.

Unplugging...

I have to send my computer in for repairs, so a short unplugging will also be taking place. Well, sort of. My job requires mainly computer work, so I will most definitely be plugged in most of the day, but I will not be around here, or etsy, or flickr... oh dear, it makes me sad just to think of it!

See you in a week!

Obsessive?

A question for you...

The first, the original. A drawing I did recently, quenching an (obsessive?) impulse for minute pattern-ing.

The second, after scanning and Illustrator re-imaging.

I can't decide which I like more. What do you think?

Creativity and the Computer

That title totally sounds like I'm beginning a scientific research paper. Not anymore! Now it's just something I think about and worry over. See, I spend a lot of time on the computer, my job involves mainly graphic and webdesigning work, and I have a growing obsession with reading blogs. So many inspiring people out there!

But I find that after hours on the computer - and I'm sure many are aware of how addictive internet browsing can be, and how fast the time flies in that activity - I am inspired by the wonderful things I have seen, but my own creative impulses are drained.

Case in point: I used to draw constantly. Everywhere I went a sketchbook went along, and doodles and scribbles were on every piece of paper I could get my hands on. Now, and I really think this has to do with my increased computer graphic work, I am finding sketching difficult. The results are never satisfactory, and the lines just don't come as easy as they used to.

My new resolution, therefore, is to draw every day. A little sketch or a large finished drawing. Just something!

I better go start!
